PSU Womens Lax sinks Colby-Sawyer
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State University scored four goals in the first five minutes of the second half Thursday afternoon to overcome a 6-4 halftime deficit, and went on to defeat Colby-Sawyer College, 12-8, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at Arold Field.
PSU gets even after losing to the Chargers for the first time in school history last season. Plymouth State won its third straight to improve to 8-5 overall, while Colby-Sawyer falls to 10-4.
The Panthers showed a balanced attack to surpass their Granite State rivals. Senior Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) scored one goal and matched a career-high with four assists, while classmate Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) and juniors Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) all finished with two goals and one assist.
Junior Caitlyn Irving (Avon, Conn.) chipped in with two goals for PSU, while classmates Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and Liz Boddy (Brentwood, N.H.) also added a goal and an assist each. Junior Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) scored one goal for the Panthers.
PSU overcame an outstanding performance by Colby-Sawyer sophomore Tara Stewart (Londonderry, N.H.), who scored six goals. Senior Becky Schaffer (Lakeland, Fla.) and sophomore Sarah McRoberts (Bourne, Mass.) also found the net for the Chargers.
Both goalies had strong games keeping their teams within reach. PSU sophomore Sarah Beebe (Rumson, N.J.) stopped 10 shots, while CSC junior Anita Watterson (Hicksville, N.Y.) finished with eight saves.
Both teams have conference games this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Plymouth State plays the final regular season home game against UMass Dartmouth in the Little East Conference regular season finale, while Colby-Sawyer will play host to Curry in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match-up.
