PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) collected a career-high nine points Saturday afternoon, scoring a career-best six goals and adding three assists as Plymouth State University overpowered Rhode Island College, 19-6, in Little East Conference women's lacrosse action at the RIC Lacrosse Complex.
Cupoli, who matched her career high with four goals in Friday night's 12-2 win at Keene State, also recorded four ground balls and six draw controls against the Anchorwomen. She had four goals and two assists in the first 20 minutes of the game as PSU built a 9-3 advantage.
PSU improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in LEC play, while RIC fell to 1-6 and 0-2.
Joining in the Panther scoring parade were classmates Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.), Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and Liz Boddy (Brentwood, N.H.). Pinault finished with four goals and one assist; MacDonald contributed three goals, two assists, four ground balls and seven draw controls; and Boddy added three goals.
Leading PSU in the ground ball department were junior Steph Blanchette (Sudbury, Mass.) with seven and freshman Taylor Cambal (West Yarmouth, Mass.) with six.
Senior Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, R.I.), RIC's all-time scoring leader, and junior Kerry McDevitt (Jamestown, R.I.) each scored a pair of goals for the Anchorwomen.
RIC kept the game close in the first half, trailing just 4-3 with 16 minutes on the clock, but PSU rattled off five unanswered goals and eight of nine before halftime to take a 12-4 advantage at the break. The Panthers removed all doubt with the first five strikes of the second half before coasting home with the win.
PSU junior goalie Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, N.H.) turned back 12 shots, including seven-of-eight free-position attempts, to register the victory. RIC freshman Katie Kielbasinski (Windsor, Conn.) made 12 saves, including eight in the first half.
Both teams play non-conference contests in their next outings; RIC travels to Westfield State on Monday (4:00 p.m.) and PSU visits Colby-Sawyer on Thursday (3:30 p.m.)
