MacDonald leads PSU Women’s Lacrosse past Bridgewater State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) recorded a season-high six points Saturday afternoon to lead the Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team to a 17-5 victory over Bridgewater State College in the regular season finale at Arold Field.

The Panthers actually trailed 3-2 with 16 minutes to play in the first half, but rattled off nine of the next 11 goals to finish the half with an 11-5 advantage. PSU held the Bears scoreless in the second half and coasted to its seventh straight win, completing the regular season with an 11-4 record. BSC had its four-game winning streak stopped and dropped to 8-6.

MacDonald finished with five goals and one assist, while also collecting 10 draw controls, five caused turnovers and four ground balls. She started the week ranked second in the nation in draw controls, and she is now four points shy of recording 200 for her career.

Also contributing to the Panther offense on Saturday was sophomore Cassidy Barry (Branford, Conn.) with four goals, and seniors Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) and Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) with three apiece. Senior Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and freshman Taylor Cambal (West Yarmouth, Mass.) scored once each, and Spadafora had a team-high two assists.

Senior Alicia Spolidoro (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior Lauryn Serratore (Norwood, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the visitors, and junior Alison Gugliotta (Norwood, Mass.) added one.

PSU outshot the Bears 30-9 in the first half and 51-17 in the second half. Freshman Jessica Cercone (Peabody, Mass.) had a busy day in the BSC net and finished with 22 saves. PSU junior netminder Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, N.H.) recorded 11 saves, including seven in the second half when the Bears could not score.

PSU finished in second place in the Little East Conference, and will enjoy a first-round bye when the LEC Tournament begins on Tuesday. The Panthers will host a semifinal game on Thursday at Arold Field, with the opponent and start time TBA.
