ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Sophomore Alayna Morris (Columbus, N.J.) scored four goals and added an assist Monday morning as Rowan University defeated Plymouth State University, 20-7, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.
It was a close game for much of the first half, as it was a 4-3 Rowan lead at the midway point. The Profs outscored the Panthers 6-1 over the last 14 minutes of the half to take a 10-4 advantage at the break. PSU scored the first goal of the second half, but Rowan converted the next seven over the next 15 minutes to put the game away.
Sophomores Taylor Cambal (West Yarmouth, Mass.), Kalie Judd (Peabody, Mass.) and Rhiannon Groff (Nashua, N.H.) did all of the scoring for Plymouth State. Cambal led the way with three goals and one assist, all of her goals coming in the first half. Judd added two goals and an assist, and Groff contributed two goals. Cambal also finished with a team-high eight draw controls, and Judd collected a team-leading six ground balls and three draw controls.
Freshman Michaela Rice (Weirs Beach, N.H.) led the team with four caused turnovers, and senior goalie Sarah Beebe (Rumson, N.J.) made 14 saves in the Panther goal.
Joining Morris in the scoring column for Rowan were freshman Patricia Harrington (Suffern, N.Y.) and junior Lauren Crennan (Pottstown, Pa.) with three goals each, and freshman Alli Dickey (Stevensville, Md.) and sophomore Tori Hart (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) with two scores apiece. Five other Profs scored one time each.
PSU, 0-2, continues its week of training in Florida before returning to New England. The next game for the Panthers is Friday, March 28, in the Little East Conference opener at Western Connecticut State University (5:00 p.m.) Rowan, 2-2, returns home to host Washington College (Md.) this Thursday, March 20, at 6:00 p.m.
