Little East Conference weekly honors for PSU student-athletes

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized by the Little East Conference on Monday with weekly honors in the sports of softball and women's lacrosse.

Sophomore Kat Roland (Norton, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) was named LEC Softball Pitcher of the Week, and senior Sarah Beebe (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) and sophomore Kalie Judd (Peabody, Mass./Veterans Memorial) were selected LEC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. They all played pivotal roles in helping the Panthers teams to unbeaten weeks.

A right-handed starter, Roland tossed a six-inning, four-hit shutout over UMass Dartmouth Saturday in her only appearance of the week.  She struck out 10 Corsairs and allowed only two runners to reach second base in an 8-0 win. Roland lowered her earned run average to 1.83 with her third shutout of the season, improving her season record to 4-0.

A senior goalie, Beebe made 18 saves, nine in each half, as PSU earned a 12-10 LEC win Friday over Western Connecticut.  She made several outstanding saves in the second half to hold off the Colonial rally and preserve the victory for PSU.

A sophomore attack, Judd scored three goals and added three assists for a game-high six points in PSU's LEC win over Western Connecticut.  She also led the team with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Judd ranks second in the conference in assists (1.33 per game) and is tied for sixth in points (3.0 per game), while also ranking first in caused turnovers (2.67 per game) and third in ground balls (4.67 per game).

The Panther softball team, which has won 10 games in a row to improved to 10-2 overall, plays non-conference doubleheaders Wednesday at Fitchburg State and Thursday at Salem State (both 3:30 p.m. starts).  The women's lacrosse squad returns to the field this Saturday with a key LEC contest at defending champion Eastern Connecticut (1:00 p.m.)
