PSU Women’s Lacrosse downs Linfield (Ore.)

Swanson helps Panthers to second straight win

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Sophomore Caitlin Swanson registered five goals and one assist Tuesday afternoon as the Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 14-8 victory over Linfield College at the Linfield lacrosse field.

PSU held a 5-3 lead midway through the first half when the Panthers rattled off five unanswered goals, including two by Swanson, to take a commanding 10-3 advantage. The two teams each scored four goals in the second half as the Panthers held on for their second straight road win in three days; PSU defeated another Northwest Conference opponent, Pacific University, Sunday night. The Wildcats, playing for the third straight day, fall to 1-4 on the year.

Senior Kathryn Rogers joined Swanson in the scoring column for PSU with three goals, while junior Jenn Foley added two goals and an assist.  Rogers also collected eight draw controls and freshman Emily Buckle picked up five.

Freshman Lorin Field and junior Ally Baribault teamed to get the win in the Panther goal, making a total of seven saves.

The outcome spoiled a strong game by Wildcat freshman Shelby Duarte, who scored four goals for the home team.  Sophomore Mariah Jones added two scores to Linfield's total.

PSU returns to New England and will be back on the game field next Tuesday, March 29, with a non-conference game at Fitchburg State.
