Panthers win second straight on Texas trip
IRVING, Texas – Five different players scored at least three goals Saturday afternoon as the Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team defeated Pacific University (Ore.), 22-9, in a non-conference neutral-site game at Crusader Field, hosted by the University of Dallas.
PSU scored four of the first five goals to open up a 4-1 lead nine minutes into the game. The Boxers tallied three of the next five to pull to within 6-4 with six minutes to go in the half, but PSU rattled off the final three of the half to take a 9-4 lead into the break. The Panthers opened the second half with three straight goals, and put the game away with five unanswered markers midway through the frame.
Freshman Shannon Connerty and junior Caitlin Swanson led the way for the winners with four goals apiece, while three freshmen, Megan McNabb, Amy MacDonald and Rachel Fistori, added three goals apiece.
Freshman Molly Gleason continued her strong play around the field, leading the team with six ground balls and seven draw controls. Sophomore Lorin Field started in goal and made seven saves on 13 shots before giving way to senior Ally Baribault for the final 12 minutes.
PSU had defeated Pacific 10-8 last year in Oregon. The Boxers are coached by former PSU head coach Wynne Lobel.
The Panthers, 3-1, are right back at it after returning to New England, visiting Fitchburg State University Tuesday for a 4:00 match-up. Pacific is now 2-4.
