PSU Lacrosse freshmen earn Little East recognition
Three Panthers receive Player of the Week honors
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three freshmen of the Plymouth State University men's and women's lacrosse teams were honored by the Little East Conference Monday with LEC Player of the Week honors.
Freshman Mike Curley was selected the LEC Men's Defensive Player of the Week, and classmate Molly Gleason was named LEC Women's Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman Nick Morello was also honored as the LEC Men's Rookie of the Week. The honors came after both Panther teams went undefeated during the school's Spring Break.
A rookie defender, Curley led the Panther defense in a pair of wins, recording 13 ground balls and eight caused turnovers as PSU allowed just 10 goals in two games. He picked up seven ground balls in an 18-3 win over Mass Maritime and he collected six ground balls in a 12-7 triumph over Wentworth.
A freshman attackman, Morello finished with seven goals and one assist in the Panthers' 2-0 week. He tallied three goals in last Tuesday's win at Mass Maritime and added four goals and an assist in Thursday's victory at Wentworth.
A freshman midfielder on the Panther women's team, Gleason recorded 15 draw controls and 14 ground balls as PSU posted a 2-0 record on its trip to Texas. She tallied eight draw controls and eight ground balls in a 17-9 win over the University of Dallas, and notched seven draw controls and six ground balls in a 22-9 triumph over Pacific University (Ore.).
Both PSU teams are sporting a 3-1 overall record and a three-game winning streak. The Panther men play a non-conference road game Tuesday at Saint Joseph's College (Maine) and open LEC action Saturday at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, while the PSU women play two non-conference affairs this week – Tuesday at Fitchburg State University and Thursday at Castleton State College.
