PSU Lacrosse players receive Little East honors

Four Panthers named LEC Player of the Week

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Four members of the Plymouth State University men's and women's lacrosse teams were honored by the Little East Conference Monday with LEC Player of the Week honors.

            Freshman Nick Morello earned top honors as both the LEC Men's Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, while sophomore teammate Scott Giusti was named LEC Men's Defensive Player of the Week.  On the women's side, freshman Meghan McNabb was selected Offensive Player of the Week and classmate Amy MacDonald was tabbed as Rookie of the Week. The honors came after both Panther teams went 2-0 last week, extending their respective winning streaks to five games.

            A freshman attack man, Morello finished with a team-high 10 goals and one assist in a pair of wins for the Panthers.  He tallied five goals in each victory, an 18-7 win Tuesday at Saint Joseph's College (Maine) and an 8-3 win Saturday in the LEC opener at UMass Boston.  He also picked up an assist and four ground balls in the victory at St. Joe's. Morello leads the Panthers and ranks third in the LEC with 17 goals and is tied for 10th in the conference with 20 points.

            A sophomore midfielder, Giusti averaged 11 ground balls while winning 76.2 percent of his face-offs in the 2-0 week for the Panthers.  He won 20 of 27 face-offs and picked up 14 ground balls in an 18-7 win Tuesday at Saint Joseph's College (Maine) and won 12-of-15 draws and collected eight ground balls in Saturday's 8-3 win in the LEC opener at UMass Boston.

            A pair of freshmen attack women, McNabb and MacDonald combined for 26 points in PSU's 2-0 week on 16 goals and 10 assists.  McNabb tallied a team-high 15 points for the week, including four goals and three assists in Tuesday's win at Fitchburg State and three goals, five assists and five ground balls in Thursday's win at Castleton. MacDonald registered a team-leading nine goals and two assists for the week, including two goals and two assists at Fitchburg State and a season-high seven goals at Castleton.

            MacDonald leads the LEC in goals per game (3.83) and ranks fourth in points per game (4.33) while McNabb tops the conference in assists (3.83) and points (7.00) per game and ranks fourth in goals (3.17).

            Both PSU teams are sporting a 5-1 overall record and a five-game winning streak.  The Panther men play a non-conference road game Wednesday at Clark University and an LEC contest Saturday at Salem State University, while the PSU women play a non-conference affair Tuesday evening at Bridgewater State University and the LEC debut Saturday against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester.
