More LEC honors for PSU Women’s Lax players
Three Panthers named Little East Player of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team earned three of the four weekly honors handed out by the Little East Conference Monday as the Panthers posted their third consecutive 2-0 week.
PSU junior Kristen Guest (Sandwich, Mass.) was selected Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Lorin Field (Hollis, N.H./Hollis-Brookline) was named Goalie of the Week, and freshman Meghan McNabb (Lexington, Mass.) was tabbed as Rookie of the Week. McNabb was honored by the LEC for the fourth time this season while Guest was recognized for the second time and Field for the first time.
The trio helped the Panthers extend their winning streak to seven games as the team improved to 7-1 overall with a 16-5 victory Tuesday at Bridgewater State and a 21-2 LEC triumph Saturday against UMass Dartmouth
A junior midfielder, Guest anchored a defensive effort that allowed just seven goals in the two games. She recorded eight caused turnovers and six ground balls in the victory at Bridgewater State and she collected four caused turnovers and five ground balls in the win vs. UMass Dartmouth. She also controlled three draws and contributed a goal and an assist to the offense.
A sophomore goalie, Field anchored a defensive effort that surrendered single-digit goals for the sixth and seventh straight games this spring. She made six saves in each PSU win, finishing the week with a 2-0 record, a 3.50 goals against average and a .632 save percentage.
A freshman attack woman, McNabb recorded eight goals and one assist in the 2-0 week. She tallied four goals in each PSU win, and she picked up four ground balls in the two games and added an assist against UMD.
All three Panthers rank highly among the LEC statistical leaders. McNabb leads the LEC in assists (3.0) and points (6.4) per game and ranks third in goals (3.38), while Guest tops the LEC in caused turnovers (3.75) per game and ranks second in ground balls (4.25). Field is the LEC leader in goals against average (6.91) and save percentage (.552).
In the NCAA Division III statistical rankings, Guest leads the nation in caused turnovers and ranks 22nd in ground balls; McNabb is ninth in assists per game and tied for 11th in points per game; and Field ranks eighth in goals against average and fourth in save percentage.
PSU, 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the LEC, plays two more road games this week – Thursday at Framingham State and Saturday at Eastern Connecticut.
