All-Region honors for PSU Women’s Lax quartet
Swanson, Field, Guest, McNabb represent Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Four Plymouth State University women's lacrosse players received regional recognition Wednesday when the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced the All-Region Teams for 2013.
Senior midfielder Caitlin Swanson (Holderness, N.H./Plymouth Regional) was named Pilgrim Region First Team All-Star this spring for PSU after garnering Second Team honors the past two years. The other three Panthers were Pilgrim Region Second Team selections – junior goalie Lorin Field (Hollis, N.H./Hollis-Brookline), senior defender Kristen Guest (Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore attack Meghan McNabb (Lexington, Mass.); Field and McNabb are repeat selections.
All four Panthers were named Little East Conference First Team All-Stars earlier this week after helping the Panthers to a 12-3 overall record and the LEC regular season title.
Swanson had another outstanding season for PSU on both ends of the field, contributing to the offense with a team-high 38 goals and 44 points while helping out the defense with 35 ground balls, 32 draw controls and 21 caused turnovers. She concludes an outstanding career, making her mark in the PSU record books; Swanson winds up her career 11th on the all-time PSU scoring list with 160 points (seventh with 130 goals, 30 assists) , and seventh on the all-time PSU list for draw controls with 112.
McNabb was the catalyst as the Panthers led the conference in scoring with an average of 14 goals a game. She posted a team-high 63 points on 32 goals and 31 assists, ranking second in the LEC in assists and fifth in points. McNabb has already made her mark on the PSU record book in just two years, ranking 12th on the career scoring list (73 goals, 75 assists, 148 points) and ranking third in assists.
PSU ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III national statistics in scoring defense, allowing just 6.7 goals per game, and also topped the conference in caused turnovers (11.1 per game). That was in large part due to the play of Field in goal and Guest on defense. Field leads the nation in save percentage (.569) and ranks 13th in goals against average (7.30), topping the LEC in both categories. Guest anchored the Panther defensive unit, leading the team in ground balls (43) and ranking second in the conference in caused turnovers (2.13 per game).
Plymouth State has had several All-Region selections in the past decade. This year's group joins Kalie Judd, who was a Second Team choice in 2010, Kelsey MacDonald and Nicole Evans, who were Second Team selections in 2006 and Katie Sheridan, who was a three-time All-Region choice from 2002-04.
The complete All-Region Team is available on the IWLCA website.
