MacDonald leads Panthers to third straight victory
CASTLETON, Vt. – Plymouth State University scored five unanswered goals midway through the second half Thursday afternoon, including three by junior Amy MacDonald (Hull, Mass.), as the Panthers pulled away to a 13-9 victory over Castleton State College in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Spartan Stadium.
MacDonald finished with a game-high four goals for the Panthers while freshman Caroline Vonachen (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Tilton (Cranston, R.I.) each tallied three scores. Junior Molly Gleason (Haverhill, Mass.) scored two goals and collected six draw controls and freshman Jordyn Godfrey (Glenville, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists as the Panthers (3-2) rolled to their third straight win.

After the first five minutes of play, the Spartans finally seemed to snap out of their funk. The squad scored a pair of back-to-back goals from MacKay and Whittemore to cut the lead to 3-2.
Vanochen extended the Panthers' lead to 4-2, but Whittemore responded with a pair of goals for Castleton to tie the game at 4-4. Less than a minute later, the Panthers recaptured the lead when Godfrey buried a shot.
The Spartans took their first lead of the game with 9:03 remaining in the half, and Amanda Flodstrom scored on a free position shot to put the Spartans ahead 6-5. The Panthers answered with a pair of goals in the final eight minutes, taking a 7-6 at the break.
Tilton extended the Plymouth lead to 8-6 with a goal just over six minutes into the second half, but Maddy DaCosta answered for the Spartans to cut the deficit back to one, making it 8-7 with 19:41 remaining. But PSU scored the next five goals over the next 15 minutes, including three by MacDonald, to seal the win.
Senior goalie Lorin Field (Hollis, N.H.) made 11 saves to earn the win in the Panther goal. Rachel Bombardier took the loss in the Castleton net, making five saves.
