PSU Women’s Lacrosse rolls past Eastern Conn.
MacDonald, Gleason lead Panthers to seventh straight win
MANSFIELD, Conn. – Juniors Amy MacDonald (Hull, Mass.) and Molly Gleason (Haverhill, Mass.) combined for nine goals Saturday afternoon as Plymouth State University defeated Eastern Connecticut State University, 21-5, in a Little East Conference women's lacrosse game at the ECSU Mansfield Complex.
MacDonald scored a game-high five goals while Gleason added four goals and a season-high 13 draw controls. The Panthers extended their winning streak to seven games, improving to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in Little East play. ECSU fell to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
PSU also got three goals from freshman Jordyn Godfrey (Glenville, N.Y.), two goals and a team-high three assists from junior Shannon Connerty (Nashua, N.H.), and two goals and one assist from freshman Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, Mass.)
The Panthers led 2-0 after the first 10 minutes when Eastern Conn. scored the cut the margin in half. PSU turned up the offense, rattling off six unanswered goals over the next 10 minutes to pull ahead, 8-1. MacDonald had two of the goals in the rally.
Eastern came back with two goals to cut the margin to 8-3 at halftime, but PSU came out of the break by scoring eight unanswered goals to put the game away.
Senior Lorin Field (Hollis, N.H.) earned the win in goal for PSU, making 10 saves in 44 minutes, while junior Casey Curran (Framingham, Mass.) came off the bench and made two saves the rest of the way.
Plymouth State returns to action Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at The New Hampton School with a key LEC match-up against rival Keene State College. The Owls are 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the Little East.
