PSU Women’s Lacrosse rolls past Colby-Sawyer

MacDonald leads Panthers to non-conference win

            NEW LONDON, N.H. – Senior Amy MacDonald (Hull, Mass.) tallied nine points on five goals and four assists Thursday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to an easy 16-4 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Veech Field.

            MacDonald scored three goals and assisted on another in the first half to help the Panthers to a 10-1 lead by the intermission. She added a goal and three assists as PSU scored the first four goals of the second half to open up a 14-1 lead before coasting to the victory. Plymouth State improves to 5-3 overall while Colby-Sawyer drops to 3-4.

            Sophomore Caroline Vonachen (Framingham, Mass) contributed three goals for the Panthers, while sophomore Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman Allie Buckley (Old Lyme, Conn.) added two goals and two assists apiece. Senior Rachel Fistori (Medford, Mass.) and junior Emily Tilton (Cranston, R.I.) chipped in with two goals each.

            Senior Molly Gleason (Haverhill, Mass.) also contributed to the win with a season-high nine draw controls and a team-leading three caused turnovers, while freshman Sophia Guerriero (Essex, Mass.) picked up a team-high four ground balls.

            Senior goalie Casey Curran (Framingham, Mass.) recorded the win in the Panther goal with nine saves, her second-highest total in a game this season.

            PSU topped the Chargers in shots (28-17), draw controls (17-5) and ground balls (19-10) en route to the victory.

            The Panthers return to Little East Conference action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
