Panthers picked to finish second in 2016
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the 2016 Little East Conference preseason poll, in a vote of the league's head coaches.
Defending champion Keene State College was picked to repeat, receiving four first place votes and 44 points in the poll. PSU was selected second with one top vote and 37 points, and Western Connecticut State University was third with the two remaining first-place votes and 35 points.
The Owls return 16 players, including 10 starters. Keene finished 2015 with a 7-12 overall record, 5-1 in the LEC, and upset top-seeded PSU in the LEC Championship game.
Plymouth State enters 2016 seeking its sixth LEC Tournament Champion title in program history. The Panthers went undefeated in regular season conference action last spring, going 6-0 in the LEC and 13-4 overall, before being upset in the title game. The Panthers have a young roster with no seniors on their squad, but their returners are strong and consistent players.
The LEC regular season schedule began for Eastern Connecticut this past weekend, with many other teams around the LEC joining in this week. Conference action begins the first weekend in April.
