Sullivan's six goals leads Panthers to victory
BAYAMON, P.R. – Sophomore Sam Sullivan (Canton, Mass.) scored six goals Monday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University past Lasell College, 14-6, in non-conference women's lacrosse action at the Bayamon Soccer Comp. on the teams' Spring Break trip to Puerto Rico.
Sophomore Megan Tingley (Natick, Mass.) and junior Caroline Vonachen (Framingham, Mass.) also had big games for PSU, Tingley with three goals, an assist, five draw controls and two caused turnovers and Vonachen with two goals, an assist, and two caused turnovers.
PSU scored the first four goals of the game, two by Sullivan and one each by sophomore Sophia Guerriero (Essex, Mass.) and Vonachen. Lasell scored consecutive goals to cut the margin in half, but Tingley and Sullivan found the net again to put the Panthers up 6-2 at the half.
Lasell came out of the break on a mission and scored the first three goals to pull to within one with 17 minutes remaining, but PSU answered with three of its own, one each by Vonachen, sophomore Caity O'Leary (Gloucester, Mass.) and Tingley. Lasell scored one more with 10 minutes to go, but PSU potted the final five goals of the game, three in a row by Sullivan and one each from TIngley and freshman Sarah Thompson (Hooksett, N.H./Central).
Junior Meg Brault (South Windsor, Conn.) made nine saves in the Panther cage to earn the win in goal. PSU finished with a 29-21 advantage in shots and a 12-10 margin in draw controls.
PSU, 2-1 on the season, plays the second of three games in Puerto Rico on Wednesday against Colby-Sawyer College (10:30 a.m.)
