Tingley, LaRiviere earn Player of the Week accolades for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State University lacrosse players were recognized by the Little East Conference (LEC) Monday with top weekly honors for their performances in Panther contests last week.
Sophomore Megan Tingley (Natick, Mass.) was named LEC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, and junior Jayson LaRiviere (Chelmsford, Mass.) was tabbed the LEC Men's Lax Goalkeeper of the Week. They were key players for the Panther squads during the school's Spring Break.
A 5-4 midfielder, Tingley led the Panthers in scoring on the team's trip to Puerto Rico, where they went 2-1 in three games. She tallied 13 points on seven goals and six assists, including a pair of hat tricks, and she also collected 12 draw controls, seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Tingley notched three goals and an assist in a win over Lasell College, three goals and three assists in a victory over Colby-Sawyer College, and finished with a goal and two assists against Franklin & Marshall University, the #2 ranked team in NCAA Division III.
Tingley leads the Panthers in scoring thru five games with 17 points on eight goals and nine assists, ranking eighth in the conference in points and tied for third in assists. She is also tied for fifth in the LEC with 15 draw controls, and tied for second with 11 caused turnovers.
The Panther women's team, 3-2, is back in action Thursday at Castleton University. The home opener is Saturday, Apr. 2, against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
A 5-10 netminder, LaRiviere helped PSU to an 11-7 victory over Massachusetts Maritime, making 12 saves on 19 shots on goal for his first career victory. He made five stops in the third quarter as the Buccaneers outshot the Panthers 11-6 in the period, and added two more saves in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.
LaRiviere ranks fourth in the Little East this season in goal against average (10.50) and sixth in save percentage (48.1).
The Panther men, 1-3, return to action this Friday, Mar. 25, at 4:00 p.m. at New England College.
