RIC upends Panthers in dual meet
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College and Rhode Island College each won five individual bouts, but RIC captured the wrestling match at Foley Gymnasium, 19-16.
RIC, which is ranked 10th in New England, improves to 1-0 in dual meets, while PSC, which is ranked fifth in New England, is now 1-2.
PSC took a 13-0 lead by winning the first four matches, with victories from senior Marco Salce (Keene, N.H.) at 184 pounds, sophomore Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vt.) at 197, sophomore Dana Carr (Salem, N.H.) at heavyweight and sophomore Jared Raymond (Exeter, N.H.) at 125.
RIC came back with victories in the next five battles from freshman Luke Emmons (West Greenwich, R.I.) at 133 pounds, senior A.J. Aulson (Georgetown, Mass.) at 141, freshman Rob Petit (Foxboro, Mass.) at 149, senior Troy Lambert (Foster, R.I.) at 157, and junior Chris Richard (Hope, R.I.) at 165.
PSC junior Chris Villa (Monmouth Jct., N.J.) won the final bout at 174, but the team result had already been determined. The Panthers return to action this Saturday (Dec. 9) at a quad-meet at Western New England College with Roger Williams and Southern Maine (11 a.m.). RIC has its home opener Sunday (Dec. 10) against Yeshiva (12 noon).
