PSC places 6th at N.E. Dual Meet Championships
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Plymouth State College's wrestling team won two matches and dropped two Sunday to place sixth in the New England Dual Meet Championships, hosted by Springfield College.
The Panthers won their opening match over Western New England, 38-7, but dropped their second-round match-up to eventual champion Coast Guard, 31-9. PSC came back with a 21-15 decision over Wesleyan before dropping a 27-21 verdict to Trinity in the fifth/sixth place match.
The 2-2 record on the day gives PSC a 7-6 mark on the season. The Panthers were seeded sixth heading into the tournament.
Leading the way for PSC was sophomore Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vt.), who won all four of his matches at 197 pounds. Ranked #2 in New England, Kittredge's four wins improves his season record to 20-3.
Also wrestling well for the Panthers was sophomore Rich Moskowitz (Amherst, N.H.) and junior Nate Buffington (Plymouth, N.H.), who each captured three decisions in four outings. Moskowitz, who is ranked fifth in New England at 157 pounds, went 3-1 to improve his season mark to 23-7, the most wins on the team. Buffington won twice at 125 pounds and once at 133 pounds, improving his record to 8-11.
Senior Moses Cerritos (Naples, Fla.) also registered a pair of victories at 174 pounds, giving him a season record of 9-7.
The Panthers return to action Wednesday (Jan. 24) with a dual match at WPI (7 p.m.). WPI along with Roger Williams, did not compete in Sunday's championship event due to the weather.
