PSC 7th after first day at New Englands
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - After one day and four rounds of wrestling, Plymouth State College is holding down seventh place among 14 schools at the New England Collegiate Conference Wrestling Association's annual championships, hosted by Williams College.
Roger Williams University and four-time defending champion Springfield College share the lead with 64.5 points, thru Saturday night's rounds. Trinity (61) is third, followed by Coast Guard (51), Norwich (48), Johnson & Wales (36.5) and PSC (32). Rounding out the top 10 are Rhode Island College (29.5), Southern Maine (27.5) and Wesleyan and WPI (11.5 each).
PSC's line-up for the championships included sophomore Jared Raymond (Danville, N.H.) at 125 pounds, junior Nate Buffington (Plymouth, N.H.) at 133, junior Dave Brown (North Andover, Mass.) at 141, freshman Griffin Banos (Edison, N.J.) at 149, sophomore Rich Moskowitz (Amherst, N.H.) at 157, junior Chris Villa (Monmouth Jct., N.J.) at 165, senior Moses Cerritos (Naples, Fla.) at 174, senior Marco Salce (Keene, N.H.) at 184, sophomore Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vt.) at 197, and senior Todd Austin (Rumford, Maine) at 285.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude Sunday evening. The individual champions in each of the 10 weight classes receive automatic berths in the NCAA Division III National Championships, along with five at-large berths. The nationals are March 2-3 at Waterloo, Iowa, hosted by Wartburg College.
