Panther Wrestlers begin second half with two losses
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Plymouth State University wrestling team began the unofficial second half of the season Sunday with a pair of losses at the Williams College Duals.
Competing for the first time in three weeks following a break for final exams and the holidays, PSU was defeated by Williams in the first match, 33-12. The Panthers finished the day on the short end of a 49-0 decision to Simpson College (Iowa), a school that finished 14th at the NCAA Division III Championships last year.
The only bright spots for the Panthers came in the loss to Williams. Senior Shaun Cleary (West Keansburg, N.J.) picked up an 8-6 decision over Tim Madden at 141 pounds, but Cleary was then pinned by Simpson's Clint Manny. Panther freshman Brandon Black (Keene, N.H.) earned a 14-9 victory over Williams' Jeff Ishkiuza at 157, but suffered a 10-9 setback to Nate Broghammer of Simpson. Junior Kyle Pietrowski (Eliot, Maine) accounted for PSU's other six points against Williams with a win by forfeit at 197.
PSU, 3-3 overall, makes a trip to Scranton, Pa., this week for three matches on Wednesday against the University of Scranton, Wilkes University (Pa.) and Olivet College (Mich.).
