Panther Wrestlers place fourth at PSU Invitational

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vt.) led the Plymouth State University wrestling team to a fourth place finish our of eight teams Sunday at the annual PSU Invitational Tournament held at Foley Gymnasium.

The Coast Guard Academy captured the team title, scoring 86 points.  Springfield College finished runner-up with 82, followed by Bridgewater State College (76.5), PSU (72), Western New England Colleg (45), the University of Southern Maine (38.5), the University of New Hampshire Club (33) and the Yale University Club (16).

Kittredge (left) won all three of his bouts to win the title at 184 pounds, and was named to the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. He pinned Chris Rodgers of Coast Guard in the first round, earned an 8-3 decision over John Gaffney of UNH in the semifinals, and registered a 3-1 overtime victory over Josh Boyle of Coast Guard in the title bout. Kittredge improved his season record to 19-5.

Two Panthers placed second in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Brandon Black (Keene, N.H.) finished runner-up at 165 pounds, winning three straight decisions before losing 5-3 in the title bout to Scott Koser of Coast Guard. Junior Nick Gurney (Dixfield, Maine) placed second at 174, pinning his first two opponents and earning a decision in the semifinals before getting pinned in the final by James Quinlan of Bridgewater State.

 

Senior Dan Moskowitz (Amherst, N.H.) was a third-place finisher for PSU at 157 pounds.  He was upset in his first match by Coast Guard's Colin Boyle, but rebounded with four consecutive victories to end up in third place.  Moskowitz has the second-best record for PSU at 16-7.

Four other Panthers placed fourth in their respective weight classes -- freshmen Chris Greenwood (Manchester, N.H./ West) at 125, sophomore Matt Friend (Jefferson, N.H.) at 133, freshman Ryan Schieding (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) at 149, and senior Kyle Pietrowski (Eliot, Maine) at 197.

PSU returns to action Wednesday with a dual match at Southern Maine (7:00 p.m.)
