PSU Wrestlers place fourth at USMs Ted Reese Invitational
GORHAM, Maine - Plymouth State University had nine place-winners and finished in fourth place Saturday at the Ted Reese Invitational Wrestling Tournament, hosted by the University of Southern Maine.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy won the six-team event, scoring 108 points. Bridgewater State College finished second with 99.5, followed by American International (94), Plymouth State (93.5), Southern Maine (86.5) and Trinity College (61).
Junior 133-pounder Shawn Moseley (Hooksett, N.H./Concord HS/Tilton Prep), senior 174-pounder Ryan Schieding (Manchester, N.H./Memorial), and senior heavyweight Josh St. Ours (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) were the top Panther place-winners, each finishing second in their weight class. Moseley and Schieding each won two individual bouts before losing in the finals, and St. Ours needed three wins to reach the 285-pound final.
Sophomore Jared Laganas (Dracut, Mass./Dracut) was a third-place finisher for PSU at 157 pounds, winning four out of five matches in the tournament. Senior Chris Greenwood (Manchester, N.H./West) and sophomore Fred Wilkinson (Quogue, N.Y./Riverhead) finished third and fourth at 125 pounds, Greenwood defeating Wilkinson in the third-place bout.
Three other Panthers were fourth-place finishers -- sophomore Donny Connolly (Plaistow, N.H./Timberlane) at 165, senior Landon Nelson (Salem, N.Y./Washington Academy) at 174, and sophomore Dan Burke (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) at 197.
PSU will be back on the mats next Saturday in the final competition of the first semester, a home quad meet at Foley Gymnasium against Southern Maine, Western New England and Roger Williams, beginning at 12 noon.
