PSU Student-Athletes earn national academic honors
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Several Plymouth State University student-athletes have been recognized with national academic honors from the governing bodies of their sports. These honors have come in the sports of field hockey, skiing and wrestling.
Eight PSU field hockey players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, which recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. The eight Panthers honored are seniors Rachel Kirschner (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills) and Katie Randall (Portsmouth, N.H.), juniors Ashley Gutowski (Conway, N.H./Kennett) and Amanda Sherburne (Rumney, N.H./Plymouth Regional), sophomores Katie Chase (Goffstown, N.H.), Lindsey Hiltz (Manchester, N.H./West) and Morgan Lemmon (Gilford, N.H./Bishop Brady), and freshman Betsy Renauld (Penacook, N.H./Merrimack Valley).
Four PSU alpine skiers received Academic All-America honors from the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association. Those Panthers honored are senior Jason Hey (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin), sophomores Shelley Bowen (Gilford, N.H.) and Alex Albrecht (Canterbury, N.H.) and freshman Chris Roche (Hingham, N.H./Holderness Prep, N.H.)
One PSU wrestler was named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Scholar All-American Wrestling Team for 2008, which includes wrestlers who are at least a sophomore and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20. Plymouth State's representative on the prestigious team was senior Landon Nelson (Salem, N.Y.).
