PSU Wrestler named New England Rookie of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the freshmen on the Plymouth State University wrestling team received a top honor on Monday when he was selected as New England Wrestling Association Rookie of the Week.
Freshman Josh Huber (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) received the honor from the NEWA, the second Panther wrestler this year to earn the weekly recognition. Huber helped the Panthers to a third-place finish at the Scott Viera Invitational last Saturday at Roger Williams University.
A 125-pounder, Huber (right) finished third in his weight
class in the tournament, posting a 3-1 overall record. He
rebounded from a 5-3 first-round setback to senior Ethan Cohen
(Columbia, Md.) of Williams College, the defending New England
champion at 125 pounds. Huber came back to win his next three
bouts, including a 5-4 decision over PSU junior co-captain
Fred Wilkinson (Quogue, N.Y.)
Huber, one of several strong freshmen on this year's Panther team, improved his season record to 6-3. PSU freshman Mike Willey (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the New England Rookie of the Week once last month.
The Panthers are back on the mat this Saturday (Jan. 10) when they host the annual PSU Invitational at Foley Gymnasium, an all-day event that begins at 10:00 a.m.
