PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State University had nine place-winners and finished in third place out of eight teams Saturday at the annual PSU Invitational Wrestling Tournament held at Foley Gymnasium.
Wesleyan University captured the team title, scoring 189 points. New York University placed second with 152.5, followed by PSU with 133, Bridgewater State (80.5), Coast Guard (75), SUNY Morrisville (30.5), Western New England College (25), and Springfield College (9.5).
Senior Josh St. Ours (Auburn, N.H./Manchester Memorial) led the way for the Panthers, capturing the championship at 197 pounds. Sophomore Dustin Rudy (Iselin, N.J.) also made the finals at 165 pounds but was defeated and finished runner-up.
Four Panther freshmen wrestlers took third place in their respective weight classes - freshman Josh Huber (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) at 125 pounds, freshman Logan Russell (Bath, Maine) at 149, freshman Mike Willey (Tewksbury, Mass.) at 157 and Cody Oliverio (Brick, N.J.) at 165.
Three other Panthers finished fourth in their divisions -- junior Fred Wilkinson (Quogue, N.Y.) at 125, sophomore Eric Larcomb (Jefferson, N.H.) at 197, and freshman Jake Gagnon (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) at heavyweight.
PSU will be idle for eight days before competing in the annual New England Dual Meet Championships on Sunday, Jan. 18, at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.
