GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Senior Josh St. Ours (Auburn, N.H./Manchester Memorial) posted a 3-0 record with three pins Saturday as the Plymouth State University wrestling team registered a 1-2 record in a quad meet hosted by Gettysburg College.
The Panthers defeated host Gettysburg in the first match, 33-13, but lost their next two to Wilkes University, 32-15, and Kutztown University, 25-15. PSU is now 8-7 in duals this season.
St. Ours, who is ranked second in New England at 197 pounds, improved his season record to 22-5 with 15 pins. He finished January with a 14-1 record with nine wins by fall.
Four Panther wrestlers recorded pins in the team's win over Gettysburg -- junior Fred Wilkinson (Quogue, N.Y.) at 125 pounds, sophomore Pat Cassella (Merrimack, N.H.) at 141, sophomore Eric Larcomb (Jefferson, N.H.) at 184, and St. Ours at 197. Senior Chris Greenwood (Manchester, N.H./West) won a decision at 133, and freshman Logan Russell (Bath, Maine) won by forfeit at 149.
PSU managed three individual victories against Wilkes. St. Ours won by fall at 197, freshman Mike Willey (Tewksbury, Mass.) earned a victory at 157, and sophomore Jake Gagnon (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) was a winner in the heavyweight division.
The Panthers also won three bouts against Kutztown. St. Ours recorded his third pin of the day, Greenwood registered his second pin at 133, and Willey posted his second decision on the afternoon. Willey is second on the team in wins with a 16-7 record.
Plymouth State will wrap up the regular season next Sunday, Feb. 8, with the final home match of the season, a quad meet at Foley Gymnasium that will include Springfield College, Trinity College and Johnson & Wales University (12:00 p.m.)
