GORHAM, Maine - Junior Eric Larcomb (Jefferson, N.H.) won all three of his bouts at 197 pounds Saturday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to three straight victories at a collegiate wrestling quad-meet hosted by the University of Southern Maine.
The Panthers defeated Trinity College in the first match, 27-21, and followed with a 27-16 victory over host Southern Maine. PSU wrapped up the day with a 35-15 decision over Worcester Polytechnic Institute, improving its season record to 4-3 overall.
Larcomb won by decision against Trinity and USM before pinning his WPI opponent, improving his season record to 8-3. Three other Panthers recorded two wins without a loss -- sophomore Josh Huber (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) at 125 pounds, sophomore Mike Willey (Tewksbury, Mass.) at 157, and junior Rob Phillips (Brick, N.J.) at 184, and three others won two bouts in three trips to the mat - senior Fred Wilkinson (Quogue, N.Y./Riverhead) at 133 pounds, freshman Seth Carter (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) at 165, and sophomore Jake Gagnon (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) at 285.
PSU won six of 10 bouts to record the wins over Trinity and Southern Maine, and took seven of the 10 against WPI.
The Panthers will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 17, hosting a quad meet at 12 noon at Foley Gymnasium involving Norwich University, Bridgewater State College and Williams College. It will be the final home appearance of the season for PSU.
