PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University wrestling team went 1-3 in the final home meet of the season Sunday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium, defeating MIT but suffering losses to Bridgewater State College, Norwich University and Williams College.
The Panthers dropped close matches to Bridgewater State (24-18) and Norwich (21-19) before defeating MIT (32-19). PSU ended the day with a 45-0 loss to Williams College, which is ranked #1 in New England and #18 in the nation in Division III. The Panthers, who are ranked seventh in New England, fall to 4-6 on the season, while Williams is now 9-2, BSC is 3-6, Norwich is 4-4 and MIT is 0-4.
Senior Fred Wilkinson (Quogue, N.Y./Riverhead) and sophomore Josh Huber (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) won three matches apiece to lead the Panthers. Wilkinson won three of his four bouts at 133 pounds to improve his season record to 14-5, and Huber was a perfect 3-0 at 125 pounds, upping his season mark to a team-leading 17-3.
Two other Panthers won two bouts apiece -- junior Eric Larcomb (Jefferson, N.H.) at 197 and sophomore Jake Gagnon (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) at 285. Larcomb is now 10-3 on the season and Gagnon is 10-4.
Plymouth State returns to the mats next Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Headlock for Hunger New England Dual Meet Championships at Springfield College.
