PSU Wrestling Team finishes 0-3 at NYU Quad
Phillips, Giovanetti win two bouts each for Panthers
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Plymouth State University wrestling team dropped all three matches at the New York University Quad Meet Saturday afternoon, falling to Elizabethtown College (Pa.), 33-12; Gettysburg College (Pa.), 35-15; and host NYU, 37-9.
Updated team records after the day's competition leaves Elizabethtown at 7-4, Gettysburg at 4-4, NYU at 4-5, and PSU at 2-7.
Seniors Rob Phillips and Zac Giovanetti led the Panthers with two individual victories apiece. Phillips went 2-1 at 184 pounds, improving his team-best season record to 18-6, while Giovanetti went 2-1 at 197 pounds, with all three matches being decided by a pin.
Junior Femi Wheeler also finished with a 2-1 record on the day, winning once on the mat at 157 pounds and one by forfeit. Senior Mike Willey and junior Cody Oliverio each won one match for the Panthers at 149 pounds.
Plymouth State will be back on the mat next Sunday, Jan. 22, at the New England Dual Meet Championships, hosted by Springfield College.
