Wheeler, Perrault earn wins for Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Rhode Island College won eight of the 10 bouts Wednesday evening to defeat Plymouth State University, 36-10, in a New England Wrestling Association dual match at Foley Gymnasium.

The Anchormen, ranked fifth in New England, led 13-10 at the midway point of the match before capturing the final five bouts to easily earn the team victory.  Leading the way for the winners were freshman Chris Kelly (Franklin, Mass.) at 141 pounds, sophomore Kyle Humphries (East Longmeadow, Mass.) at 197, and junior Jonathan Murray (Bay Shore, N.Y.) at 125, who all recorded pins over their Panther opponents.

PSU got a major decision from senior Femi Wheeler (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) at 157 pounds and a win by fall from freshman Chris Perrault (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) at 174.

Kelly led things off for the Anchormen with a pin at 141, and freshman Michael Murphy (North Providence, R.I.) recorded a major decision at 149 to make it 10-0.  Wheeler's victory at 157 put the Panthers on the board, and after junior Kevin Barrucci (Burlington, Mass.) won by decision for RIC at 165, Perrault earned the final win for PSU with a pin at 174.

It was all Anchormen the rest of the way, as junior Adam Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) posted his first win of the season at 184 pounds, Humphries and Jonathan Murray sandwiched their pins around a decision by Richard Broderick (Roslindale, Mass.) at 285, and junior Silas Murray (Bay Shore, N.Y.) finished off the night with a technical fall at 133 pounds.

PSU, 0-2, is back on the mat this Saturday at the Ted Reese Invitational at the University of Southern Maine.  RIC, 1-0, returns to action on Friday, Dec. 7, with the home opener against Western New England University.
