PSU Wrestling drops home match to Norwich
Perrault posts win for Panthers at 184 pounds
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University wrestling team dropped its only home match of the season Wednesday evening to Norwich University, 44-6, in New England Wrestling Association action at Foley Gym.
The visiting Cadets, ranked eighth in New England, won nine of the 10 bouts on the evening, including three by fall and two by forfeit. Norwich is now 1-0 in dual matches this season, while PSU drops to 3-1.
Sophomore Chris Perreault (Saint Johnsbury, Vt.) posted the only victory on the mat for Plymouth State, improving his season record to 4-0 with a win by fall at 184 pounds.
The three Cadet wrestlers who pinned their PSU opponents included junior Alex Stewart (Ellicott City, Md.) at 133 pounds, junior Cody Gladstone (Merrimack, N.H.) at 174, and senior Mike Babbin (Plymouth, Mass.) at 197. Freshman AJ Bongiovanni (Hopatcong, N.J.) earned a decision at 149 pounds, senior Evan Poole (West Milford, N.J.) followed at 157, and junior Williams Burns (Mascoutah, Ill.) won by technical fall at 165. Senior Anthony Joyce (Lincoln, R.I.) finished off the match with a triumph in the 285-pound weight class.
The Panthers have a full day ahead of themselves on Saturday when the team competes at the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College. Norwich wrestles in a tri-match Saturday at WPI with the University of Southern Maine.
