Perreault, Thibault are place-winners for Panthers
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Plymouth State University wrestling team finished in seventh place out of nine schools Saturday at the Williams College Invitational.
Springfield College captured the team scoring with 137.5 points, with Simpson College finishing runner-up with 95. Wesleyan University was third with 84, followed by Williams (62.5), the University of Southern Maine (48.5), Springfield Tech (44), Plymouth State (36.5), Trinity College (32) and American International (29.5).
Sophomore Chris Perreault (Saint Johnsbury, Vt.) and freshman Joe Thibault (Southwick, Mass.) were the top wrestlers for Plymouth State, earning spots in the consolation finals. Perrault posted a 4-1 record in the tournament at 184 pounds, capturing third place in the weight class with a 5-3 decision over Taylor Witzel of Simpson in the third-place match. Thibault finished fourth in the 133-pound bracket, falling to Dan Evangelako of Williams in the third-place bout. Perreault is now 14-3 this season, leading the Panthers in victories.
Freshman Clay Callahan (Milford, Conn.) also had a strong performance for PSU, going 3-2 in the 165-pound weight class. Junior Alex Gerhold (Derry, N.H.) at 149 pounds and freshman Ray Welch (Rochester, N.Y.) at 155 pounds also won two matches each for the Panthers.
The Panthers will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 12, at a tri-meet at Southern Maine with Western New England University.
