Reisch, Callahan, Perreault are double-winners for Panthers
GORHAM, Maine – The Plymouth State University wrestling team dropped a pair of tough decisions in at tri-match Sunday afternoon at the University of Southern Maine, falling to the host Huskies 34-19, and to Western New England University, 24-20.
PSU won four of the 10 weight classes in each match but suffered the two team losses. Southern Maine, ranked eighth in New England, is now 10-3 on the season while PSU is 3-4 and WNE is 3-6.
Top performers for Plymouth State included senior Fred Reisch (Norwalk, Conn.), freshman Clay Callahan (Milford, Conn.) and sophomore Chris Perreault (St. Johnsbury, Vt.), who each won bouts in both matches. Reisch went 2-0 at 141 pounds, including a pin over Southern Maine's Kevin Moore; Callahan earned a major decision and a technical fall at 165 pounds; and Perreault won twice at 184 pounds, once by forfeit and once by a 1-0 score over WNE's Rob Garlick. Perreault improved his record to a team-best 16-3, while Callahan is now 7-5 and Reisch is 6-6.
Two other Panther wrestlers split their two matches, junior Alex Gerhold (Derry, N.H.) at 149 pounds and junior Taylor Lozier (Barre, Vt.), winning at 174 vs. Southern Maine and losing at 197 against WNE.
PSU will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 26, at the New England Dual Meet Championships, hosted by Bridgewater State University.
