Panthers down Trinity but fall to Springfield and JWU
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Plymouth State University wrestling team earned one victory Saturday in a quad meet Saturday at Springfield College, falling to the host Pride, 42-12, and Johnson & Wales University, 32-6, but ending with a victory over Trinity College, 31-15.
The event included two of the two four teams in New England as Springfield is ranked second and Johnson & Wales fourth in the latest Division III poll.
Sophomore Chris Perreault (Saint Johnsbury, Vt.) led the Panthers with a pair of wins at 184 pounds, improving his record to 23-5. He sandwiched wins against Springfield and Trinity with a loss against Trinity.
The Panthers defeated Trinity with victories in seven of the 10 weight class. Perreault's victory at 184 followed a win by fall by freshman Moises Diaz (Nashua. N.H.) at 174. Senior Fred Reisch (Norwalk, Conn.), junior Alex Gerhold (Derry, N.H.) and freshman Ray Welch (Rochester, N.Y.) also recorded consecutive wins at 141, 149 and 157, and PSU received forfeit wins at 125 and 133.
PSU will compete again next Saturday at the North Atlantic Championships at the University of New Hampshire.
