Aumann wraps up season among nation's best

LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Plymouth State University sophomore wrestler Joe Aumann (Hopatcong, N.J.) was knocked out of competition during day one of the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse on Friday.

Aumann, led by fourth-year head coach Ryan Schieding, wraps up his season with a team-best mark of 28-10 wrestling primarily at 125-pounds.  He became the first Panther grappler to compete at the NCAA Championships since Mike Willey earned All-American status during the 2011-12 season.

Plymouth State was one of 68 teams represented at the championships and ended the opening day in a 15-way tie for 54th place.  Wartburg College (IA) and Augsburg College (MN), the top two teams in the nation, held the top two spots after Friday's bouts.

The championships will conclude Saturday evening.
