Simeti earns All-NEWA and Academic All-NEWA honors

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top wrestler for the Plymouth State University wrestling team was recognized with multiple honors by the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA).

Senior Nick Simeti (Pearl River, N.Y.) was named All-NEWA Honorable Mention and was also included on the Academic All-NEWA Team following a stellar campaign.

Simeti led the team with 24 wins (24-10 record) and 11 pins all at 157-pounds to end his career with a 56-54 mark. He placed at both the Ted Reese Invitational (sixth) at the University of Southern Maine and the Williams College Open (second).

Simeti won four times to earn a sixth place finish at the Ted Reese Invitational. He posted back to-back pins to open the tournament before losing by an 8-6 decision. He worked his way through the wrestle backs with a pair of major decision wins before a narrow, 5-4 decision setback left him in sixth.

At Williams he was even more impressive, winning three bouts to take second place. He won his opening bout by technical fall before a pair of pins advanced him to the championships bout where he suffered his only loss by fall of the entire season.

To be considered for Academic All-NEWA honors a wrestler must have been a major contributor to the team and have better than a 3.20 GPA.
