PSU Wrestler retains regional ranking

da Silva seventh at 184 in latest NEWA rankings

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top wrestler for Plymouth State University retained a regional ranking when the latest New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) individual rankings were released on Wednesday.

Sophomore Dylan da Silva (Bayville, N.J.), who has moved between sixth and seventh in the two previous rankings, held steady at seventh at 184 pounds.

da Silva leads the Panthers with six wins and three pins in the early going and has placed at both of the two tournaments PSU has competed in. He got off to a good start at the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College on Nov. 17, winning his opening bout by fall and posting a 14-2 major decision victory to advance to the semifinals before being forced to medically forfeit his final two bouts to finish fourth.

At the Ted Reese Invitational at the University of Southern Maine last Saturday (Dec. 1), da Silva picked up wins in his first two bouts, one by pin, before suffering a 5-1 defeat. He responded with a win by fall in the consolation bracket to move to the third place bout, where he came out on the short end of a 16-11 decision.

The complete NEWA individual rankings can be found here.

Plymouth State heads to Norwich University for a dual meet tonight (6:00 p.m.), before wrapping up the fall semester with a tri-meet at Rhode Island College on Saturday (Dec. 8). PSU faces Southern Maine at 1:00 p.m. before clashing with the host Anchormen at 3:00 p.m.
