PSU Wrestler retains NEWA ranking

da Silva holds steady in sixth at 184 pounds 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – With the annual New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Championships approaching, the top wrestler for Plymouth State University retained his regional ranking.

            Sophomore Dylan da Silva (Bayville, N.J.) held steady at sixth in New England at 184 pounds in the latest NEWA Individual Rankings.

            After missing the final three matches of the fall semester, da Silva has won back-to-back individual titles. He picked up a pair of wins by fall to cruise to the 184 title at the Scott Viera Invitational at Roger Williams on Jan. 6.

            He followed that with two straight decisions to win at 184 pounds at the Panthers' own Jim Aguiar Invitational on Jan. 12. da Silva was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler by the coaches of the nine teams attending.

            Plymouth State opens the annual NEWA Dual Championships as the #16 seed and will face top-seeded Johnson & Wales (ranked #2 in the country) in a first round match-up on Sunday (Jan. 20).
