Matt Eldredge is now in his second season as head wrestling coach at Plymouth State, taking over in 2011 after two years as an assist ant on the Panther staff. Eldredge led the team to an eighth place at the New England championships in his first season, coaching four All-New England wrestlers and one New England champion who went on to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Championships.
A native on Canandaigua, N.Y., Eldredge is a former standout wrestler and assistant coach at the State University of New York at Cortland.
Eldredge was a four-year wrestler at 197 pounds and heavyweight for the nationally-ranked Cortland program, where his 24 pins rank ninth in the program’s history. He also served one season as an assistant coach before graduating in 2008 with a degree in physics. He has been at Plymouth State since 2009 and is and also the director of the PSU Summer Wrestling Camp.
Eldredge was a member of the Panther staff in 2010-11, when the Panthers placed second at the New England Dual Meet Championships, their highest finish ever; tied for fourth at the New England Championships, the best place since 2003; and had eight Panthers earn All-New England honors, the most in the program’s history.
