Tommy Prairie is now in his fourth season in 2010-11 as head coach of the PSU wresting team. Prairie has helped the Panthers perform as solid contenders in the New England Wrestling Association and challengers for national wrestling honors.
Coach Prairie has led PSU to a 26-29-1 record in dual matches in
his three years, including a 9-9-1 mark in 2009-10 and a 10-8
record in 2008-09, the program’s first winning season in
seven years. He guided the Panthers to a seventh-place
finish at the New England Championships in his first season in
2007-08 and was named New England Rookie Coach of the Year.
A former three-time All-America at Williams College and a member of the New England Wrestling Hall of Fame, Prairie was the first Eph wrestler to capture three straight New England Championships and earn First Team All-America honors three straight years. The two-year captain finished third, fourth and second at the NCAA Division III National Championships from 2003-05, finishing his remarkable career with a 106-8 overall record.
Prairie graduated from Williams in 2005 and was inducted into the New England Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010.
Prairie began his coaching career in 2005-06 as a graduate assistant at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn., before serving a year as lightweight wrestling coach at his native Delran, N.J., High School. He was also a Prep All-American in 2001 at Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J.
