PSC Women's Soccer knocks off Keene in LEC opener

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College junior Caitlin Cook (Cutchogue, NY) scored two goals and assisted on two others Saturday to lead the Plymouth State College women's soccer team to a big 5-2 victory over Keene State in the annual Homecoming contest.

In fact, Cook has scored five goals in PSC's last two games.

It was the Little East Conference opener for both schools, which were the co-favorites in the LEC pre-season coaches' poll. PSC improves to 4-2 overall, while Keene State drops to 5-2.

It was a 1-0 ballgame at halftime, with the only goal coming from PSC freshman Jill Wolters (Sussex, NJ) with an assist from Cook. The Panthers added to their lead in the first minute of the second half when Cook scored her first goal of the game, with an assist from senior Lindsay Audette (Belchertown, MA).

The Owls got on the board 10 minutes into the second half as Celena Chickering (Keene, NH) set up Katelyn Haggerty (Sturbridge, MA) for her third goal of the season. But PSC countered just 19 seconds later to get back its two-goal lead, with freshman Krista Menard (Franklin, VT) scoring with an assist from Cook.

PSC sophomore Jess Branch (West Tisbury, MA) found the net in the 73rd minute, extending the Panthers' lead to 4-1. Chickering brought the Owls back with a goal with eight minutes to play, but Cook added her second goal of the contest with four minutes left to clinch the contest for the Panthers.

The Panthers finished with a 15-11 advantage in shots on goal. PSC keeper Lisa Goldberg (Newton, MA) and KSC keeper Carrah Fisk (Keene, NH) each made four saves.

The Panthers play their fourth straight home game Thursday (Oct. 1) vs. Gordon College. Keene State hosts Westfield State on Monday (Sept. 28).
