WENHAM, Mass. - Gordon College advanced past Plymouth State College in the ECAC Division III New England women's soccer tournament Wednesday, eliminating the Panthers on penalty kicks.
The Panthers and Fighting Scots battled through a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation as well as two 15-minute overtimes and two 10 minute sudden death overtimes, despite PSC outshooting Gordon 33-5. The match was declared a tie, but the teams went to penalty kicks to determine who would advance in the tournament.
In the round of penalty kicks, junior Erin Pepe (Franklin, MA) converted a goal for PSC, but it wasn't enough to offset Gordon goals by Taylor Nice, Nicole Peel, and Sada Andrews, and the Fighting Scots advance to Saturday's semi-finals.
PSC goalkeeper Alyssa Sadowski (Middleton, MA) registered three saves in the 120 minutes of regulation and overtime, while Gordon's Sara Baker was outstanding with 22 saves.
Plymouth State, which was making its 16th consecutive post-season appearance, finishes the season with a 9-7-2 overall record under first-year coach Beth Field.
