PSC blanked by Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. - Sophomore Ali Bimba extended her scoring streak to three games Saturday, recording the lone goal of the first half as the Wheaton College women's soccer team blanked Plymouth State, 2-0, at Elms Field.

With the win, Wheaton moves to 3-0 on the season, while the Panthers suffered their first loss of the season and dropped to 2-1.

Bimba received a high lofting pass from midfielder Lucy Campbell in stride down the right side of the field and drove the ball by Plymouth goalie Becky Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) at the 14:30 mark. As the pass from Campbell sailed over a Panther defender, Bimba was one-on-one against Kennedy and her shot prevailed to the left of Kennedy's reach.

The game remained a one-goal contest for the next 58:30 until Wheaton's Campbell struck again, this time tallying a score of her own late in the second half. Campbell ended up with the loose ball inside the penalty box, and managed to deliver her first goal of the season into the left side of the net.

Kennedy finished with 10 saves for the Panthers, while the Lyons used two goalkeepers. Freshman Jessica Broomhead and junior Emily Boeing each posted scoreless halves and each made one save. Wheaton outshot PSC 24-6 on the afternoon.

PSC continues its five-game road swing Monday (Sept. 11) at Colby-Sawyer (4 p.m.)
