BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Sandra Petlick (New Castle, NH) scored a career-high four goals and junior Carrie Poulin (Westfield, Mass.) added a hat trick of her own Saturday as the Plymouth State College women's soccer team had little trouble in blanking UMass Boston, 12-0, in the Little East Conference opener for both schools.
The Panthers jumped to a 5-0 lead by halftime, as Poulin scored twice and Petlick and freshmen Katie Van Tassel (Natick, Mass.) and Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, NY) each connected once. PSC made it a rout in the second half as Petlick added three more, Poulin notched another, and single goals were scored by freshmen Cathy Berei (Pennington, NJ), Annmarie DeVivo (West Islip, NY) and Becky Callery (Gill, Mass.). Berei also added a pair of first-half assists.
PSC keeper Becky Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) made one save in the first half, and her replacement, sophomore Liz Cheney (Milford, NH) was not called on to make any saves in the second half. UMB keeper Kristen Bowes was credited with 14 saves.
Plymouth State, 5-1 overall, plays its next game Thursday (Sept. 21) at home vs. Saint Michael's College (4 p.m.)
