PSC back on track with win at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. - Freshman Lauren Oberholtzer (Nashua, NH) scored a second half goal to snap a 1-1 tie Tuesday afternoon and propelled the Plymouth State College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Salem State College at Alumni Field. The entire match was played in a driving rainstorm.

The Panthers, who ended a brief two-game losing streak, raised their record to 6-3 while Salem State dropped its third match in its last four outings to fall to 4-4-1.

Oberholtzer scored the game-winner, her first career goal, when she headed home a crossing pass from freshman defender Becky Callery (Gill, Mass.) into the lower left corner with 19:50 to go in the match.

Panther senior forward Marcy Frew (Webster, NH) staked Plymouth to an early 1-0 lead when she scored off a feed from sophomore forward Sandra Petlick (New Castle, NH) just 2:07 after the opening whistle. Salem sophomore forward Lisa Dellascio evened the score at 1-1 just 3:37 into the second half when she found the back of the net after collecting a pass from sophomore midfielder Silvia Leary, setting the stage for Oberholtzer's game-winner.

Salem senior goalkeeper Lauren Trechok and PSC junior keeper Becky Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) each registered six saves.

The Panthers return home for Saturday's Little East Conference encounter at Panther Field against arch-rival Keene State (6 p.m.).
