PSC and Keene State finish in 1-1 deadlock

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College's women's soccer team played the nightcap of a twin bill with Little East Conference foe Keene State College at Panther Field Saturday night, and the two teams battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie.

The outcome leaves PSC with a 6-3-1 overall record, and a 1-1-1 mark in the LEC. Keene State is now 4-5-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the conference.

Senior Erin Fitzgerald (Mansfield, CT) notched her first career goal to put the Panthers on the board 1-0 in the first half. Rookie Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, NY) set up the goal with her fifth assist of the season. Despite many scoring opportunities for the Owls, junior keeper Becky Kennedy (West Springfield, MA) held Keene State scoreless for the entire first half. Kennedy finished the night with 10 saves.

Keene State started the second half strong, scoring in the first eight minutes on an unassisted goal from Tia Meiler (Hopkinton, NH). It was Meiler's team-leading 10th goal of the season.

The two teams dueled for the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods but neither team could score the game winner. KSC sophomore keeper Courtney Wade (Barnstead, NH) made two saves before being relieved in overtime by freshman Rachel Simonson (North Haven, CT), who stopped three Panther shots.

Plymouth State's next game is against defending conference champion and pre-season favorite Western Connecticut at Panther Field next Saturday (Oct. 7) at 1 p.m.
