Late rally leads PSC past Green Mountain

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College scored three goals in the final seven minutes of the game Monday, pulling out a dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Green Mountain College in a non-conference women's soccer game at Panther Field.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the final 10 minutes, PSC junior Sandra Petlick (New Castle, N.H.) scored a pair of goals to tie the game with just over two minutes remaining. The first goal was a beautiful header off the left goal post and in, coming from a nice crossing pass from senior Carrie Poulin (Westfield, Mass.), and the second was an unassisted marker that went under the crossbar past the diving goalkeeper from about 20 yards out with 2:42 to play.

The game appeared headed to overtime, but sophomore Cathy Berei (Pennington, N.J.) picked up a loose ball in the crease and knocked in the game-winner with just over a minute remaining.

Green Mountain, which is ranked 6th in the nation in the NAIA, carried much of the play in the first 75 minutes. The Eagles led 2-0 on a pair of goals by Emmy Andersson (Gothenburg, Sweden), one in the first half and the second at the 72:47 mark of the second half.

PSC's senior goalie Becky Kennedy (W. Springfield, Mass.) picked up the victory with a 12-save effort, while GMC keeper Sarah Allen (Toms River, N.J.) was credited with four saves. Green Mountain finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots on goal.

Plymouth State continues its six-game homestand Wednesday, Sept. 12, with a 4 p.m. clash against Brandeis. Green Mountain plays Wednesday at Castleton State (3:30 p.m.).
