Panthers bounced in LEC Semifinals
DANBURY, Conn. -- The Western Connecticut women's soccer team advanced to the Little East Conference Championship game with a 3-0 victory Friday night over Plymouth State College in the LEC Semifinals at Midtown Campus Field.
Western Connecticut will face Keene State College, who defeated Eastern Connecticut earlier on Friday, 1-0, on Sunday, Oct. 28th, as 12 noon for the Little East Conference Championship and automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
In the 31st minute, junior forward Cherie Bailey (Middletown, Conn.) put the Colonials up 1-0 when she headed in a corner kick from Jennifer Marquis (Wallingford, Conn.). It was Bailey's 13th goal of the season. Heather Babington (Bethel, Conn.) gave the Colonials insurance goals in the 70th and 86th minutes off corner kicks from Marquis and Stacey Rogenski. They were Babington's team-leading 14th and 15th goals of the year.
Kristen Bartholomew (Bethel, Conn.) made three saves for her seventh shutout of the season. PSC's Becky Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) made six saves.
The Colonials, 18-2, outshot the Panthers, 20-4. PSC ends its season at 7-10-0.
