PSC back on track after win at UMB

BOSTON, Mass. - Plymouth State College scored three second half goals and posted a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston Saturday in a Little East Conference women's soccer game at the Clark Athletic Center.

The Panthers improve to 2-4-0 overall and 1-3 in the conference, while UMB falls to 1-7-1 and 0-1.

The Beacons got on the board first, just 10 minutes into the first half. Sophomore Amanda Greene (Plymouth, Mass.) scored on a scramble in front of the Panthers' net following a corner kick, with an assist from junior Stacey Peterson (Glendale, Az.), and UMD maintained its lead through halftime.

UMB keeper Kristen Bowes (Quincy, Mass.) kept the Panthers in check until junior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) struck a line drive from 15 yards out into the right side of the net at 55:22 to tie the game at 1-1.

Graduate student Holly Levesque (Nashua, N.H.) put the Panthers ahead at the 65.:51 mark when she converted a cross from junior Shawna Brown (Woodsville, N.H.) into the right side of the net. Junior Natasha Thorne (Melrose, Mass.) capped the scoring with 10 minutes remaining when she scored amid a scramble in front of the Beacons goal, with Brown assisting.

Bowes made 17 saves for the Beacons in the first 80 minutes, and freshman Meghan Cyr (Gilbert, Az.) came on in relief to the only shot she faced. PSC keeper Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) allowed a goal on the only shot she faced as Plymouth State outshot UMB, 44-1.

PSC is back in action Tuesday with a non-conference game at Worcester State (6:00 p.m.).
